This is one of the in-progress panels of a commissioned mural that I am currently working on. I am grateful to have had help with the preparatory and underpainting portion from a number of assistants.
The plans for the mural panels go beyond clouds, however on this day I painted with prayer and spirit that was unusual. It was just last week-the first anniversary of my father’s death. He taught me how nature speaks to us, about the symbolism of colour, objects, and natural phenomena. Painting from observation allows entry to so many of these ideas and often reveals beauty or symbolism through unexpected experience or just looking, sketching, or painting.
This panel of clouds and storm break were completed on September 24, 2026, and this stage of the painting will always hold certain symbolism for me.
